Outsourcing TikTok Ads: when it makes sense, when it does not, and what it costs

Run TikTok Ads yourself or outsource to an agency? The honest trade-off: what a specialised agency actually does, what it costs, and when doing it yourself is the smarter choice.

TikTok has become a serious sales channel for a growing number of D2C brands. It is also the most labour-intensive ad platform out there: creatives wear out within a week or two, the algorithm demands fresh material constantly, and what worked last month is outdated today. So sooner or later the question lands on the table: do we keep running this ourselves, or do we outsource TikTok Ads?

When outsourcing makes sense

Outsourcing pays off in three situations. One: you already spend 2,000 euros or more per month in media budget, but results have plateaued because you test too few creatives. Two: you have proven product-market fit on Meta and want to add TikTok as a growth channel without building a new specialism in-house. Three: your team simply lacks the time — TikTok demands new content, analysis and adjustments every week; it is not a campaign you let run for a quarter.

Sound familiar? Then the maths is simple: an agency fee has to earn itself back through higher creative testing volume, faster iteration and less media budget wasted during the learning phase.

When you should not outsource (yet)

Honestly: sometimes outsourcing is not the right step. If you spend less than 1,500 euros per month in media budget, an agency fee is out of proportion to what can be optimised — invest in your product, your funnel and your first organic TikTok content instead. If you have no proven ad on any channel yet, start on Meta or run small-scale tests on TikTok yourself. And if you expect an agency to produce winning content without your input: the best TikTok creatives come from combining your product knowledge with the agency's testing data.

What does a TikTok Ads agency actually do?

A good agency takes four things off your plate. Creative strategy: choosing hooks, angles and formats based on data rather than gut feeling. Production or coordination of UGC content, including creator briefings. Campaign management: test structure, budget allocation, bidding and daily adjustments. And reporting: not just in-platform ROAS, but the blended impact on total revenue — because TikTok creates demand that partly converts through other channels.

What does outsourcing TikTok Ads cost?

In the Netherlands, specialised agency fees roughly range from 1,500 to 5,000 euros per month depending on scope: campaign management only sits at the lower end, full creative production plus management at the top. At Wrkt, TikTok Ads management starts at 3,000 euros per month including creative strategy and production, with a recommended media budget of 3,000 to 5,000 euros per month and a minimum engagement of three months — anything shorter is pointless, because the learning and testing phase takes four to eight weeks.

What to look for when choosing an agency

Ask for D2C cases with numbers, not follower counts or views. Check whether creative strategy and production are included — an agency that only "manages campaigns" and leaves content to you does not solve the real bottleneck. Ask how they report: anyone showing only platform ROAS is selling a story that is too good. And check whether you work directly with the specialist or through an account manager. What the first month with an agency looks like

Week one is about handover: access to your ad account, pixel and catalogue checks, and an analysis of what has already run. In week two the first creatives and the test structure go live, built on your existing data. Weeks three and four are about volume: testing multiple hooks and formats simultaneously, cutting losers fast and shifting media budget to what works. Expect a weekly update with test results in that first month, not a glossy monthly report after the fact.

Frequently asked questions about outsourcing TikTok Ads

What does outsourcing TikTok Ads cost per month?

Expect a fee between 1,500 and 5,000 euros per month plus your own media budget. At Wrkt: from 3,000 euros per month including creative strategy and production, with a recommended media budget from 3,000 euros.

What is the minimum media budget to outsource?

From around 2,000 to 3,000 euros per month, outsourcing becomes profitable. Below that, the fee is too heavy relative to the budget being optimised.

How quickly will I see results after handover?

The first four to eight weeks are the learning and testing phase: the algorithm gathers data and the agency tests hooks and formats. Structural returns typically show from month two to three. Distrust anyone guaranteeing results in week one.

Do I still need to supply content myself?

Partly. Raw product footage, customer reviews and product knowledge come from you; hooks, scripts, editing and creator coordination from the agency. That combination produces the best creatives.

Is outsourcing TikTok Ads different from outsourcing Meta Ads?

Yes. Meta revolves around campaign structure and the longevity of winning ads; TikTok around creative testing volume and speed. An agency that masters both channels can also optimise the budget split across your entire funnel instead of per channel. Want Meta and TikTok managed together?
